- All major brands
- Red Seal certified
Common furnace problems we repair
- Furnace won't turn on: thermostat, power supply, ignition, safety controls or an internal component.
- Blowing cold air: ignition problems, airflow restrictions or a furnace shutting down mid cycle.
- Turning on and off all day (short cycling): airflow restrictions, thermostat issues or controls that need inspection.
- Banging, rattling or squealing: the type and location of the noise points to the moving part or airflow problem.
- Weak or uneven airflow: the furnace, blower, ductwork or a restriction somewhere in the system.
Check these before you call
A few simple checks can sometimes fix a heating problem without a service visit.
- Thermostat is set to Heat and above the current room temperature
- The furnace has power and the service switch is on
- The filter isn't heavily clogged
- Supply and return vents aren't blocked
- Outdoor intake and exhaust pipes are clear of snow and ice
Don't work on gas, ignition or electrical parts yourself
If the furnace still isn't heating after those checks, it's time for a technician. Gas valves, igniters and control boards are safety parts. Our technicians hold journeyperson gasfitter tickets for exactly this work.
Repair or replace?
A breakdown doesn't automatically mean you need a new furnace. Repair makes sense when the system is otherwise healthy and the problem is one component.
Replacement is worth discussing when the furnace is older than about 15 years and facing a big repair, or when it keeps breaking down. We'll give you both prices so you can compare.
Calgary winters are hard on furnaces
Long stretches of continuous running, fast Chinook temperature swings and drifting snow all add strain. High-efficiency furnaces vent through outdoor PVC pipes, so after heavy snow, check those openings are clear. A blocked intake or exhaust is one of the most common no-heat calls we get.

Furnace repair FAQs
Still unsure? Call 587-719-5115 and talk to a technician.
How fast can you come out for a furnace repair?
Call 587-719-5115 and we'll give you the earliest slot we have. Our hours are Mon to Fri 8 AM to 7 PM, Sat 8 AM to 5 PM, Sun closed.
Why is my furnace blowing cold air?
The most common causes are an ignition problem, a dirty flame sensor, a clogged filter causing the furnace to overheat and shut down, or a blocked intake or exhaust pipe. Check the filter and outdoor pipes first, then call us.
Is it worth repairing an older furnace?
If the repair is small and the furnace has been reliable, repair usually makes sense. If it's a big repair and the unit keeps having problems, a new high-efficiency furnace is often the better spend.
Do you repair all furnace brands?
Yes. We repair all common residential brands, and we install Lennox, Goodman, Daikin and Ducane furnaces.
What should I do if I smell gas?
Leave the house, don't operate switches, and call ATCO's 24 hour emergency line at 1-800-511-3447 or 911 from outside. Call us after the gas utility has made it safe.
